Savin MFPs Embrace Apple Phone, Tablet And Ipod Users In The Workplace.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced that iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch® users can print directly to 10 Savin multifunction products (MFPs) via Wi-Fi through their local network – no software to download, drivers to install or cables to connect. The capability enables mobile workers, or anyone who has migrated from a PC to an iPad for some or all of their daily work activities, to quickly print hard-copy business letters, presentations, proposals, boarding passes, tickets and more.

Apple® mobile devices – iPad, iPod touch and iPhone, including the recently announced iPhone 5 – automatically locate nearby AirPrint™-enabled devices, which include these Savin MFPs recently certified by Apple: MP 301, MP C305, MP C3002, MP C3502, MP C4502, MP C5502, MP C4502A, MP C5502A, MP 4002 and MP 5002.

“AirPrint compatibility, part of Savin’s new intelligent MFP platform, helps make employees who use Apple mobile devices in their day-to-day work more productive, both inside their companies and on the road,” said Dominic Pontrelli, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Easy mobile printing relieves IT of the burden of managing software downloads and eliminates the need for mobile employees to send e-mail attachments around an office just so they can be printed from desktops.”

This certification deepens Savin MFP support for all the standard smart phones and tablets, essential for organizations adapting to the rapidly emerging bring-your-own-device (BYOD) culture, and creates another way to embrace the full potential of cloud-based computing. Seventy-eight percent of U.S. white collar employees use a mobile device for work, and 95 percent of organizations allow employee owned devices in the workplace, with most providing some level of support, according to a recent Cisco study.

AirPrint works with built-in Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod touch apps such as Safari, Mail, Photos, iWork and PDFs in iBooks. Printing occurs in the background, letting users quickly get back to what they were doing. Users can also line up print jobs and manage their queues.

This is part of the broad range of mobility solutions Savin offers to help organizations accommodate an increasingly mobile workforce. It complements the new Savin Mobile Worker Services portfolio, recently announced, designed to give mobile workers instant access to the information they need to be productive. Firmware update may be required for using the AirPrint function. Please contact your sales representative if you want to learn more about this function and its availability on your Savin device.

After spending the past few years renovating 109-year-old Carroll, Brough & Robinson wholesale grocers at 3 E Main, the building is almost ready for occupancy — but not by its owner, Standley Systems.

Instead, the company on Monday closed on buying the equally historic Sherman Iron Works building across the street at 26 E Main in a deal brokered by Andy Burnett and Zach Martin with Sperry Van Ness/William T. Strange Associates and Vicki Knotts of Grubb & Ellis/Levy Beffort. The 10,000-square-foot building sold for $897,500.

“They were about to move in,” Martin said of the 3 E Main building. “We put Public Strategies in there after they were displaced by a building that Chesapeake had bought. Standley Systems decided to lease it out, looked across the street, and decided to start over.”

The Sherman Iron Works building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the oldest structures in Bricktown, with parts of the property dating to 1899. It has stood empty since the iron works company ended operations in Bricktown about 25 years ago.

Aiding economy
“Every time we can bring a building that’s been dark for 30 plus years online it’s good for the area,” Burnett said. “Bricktown has a lot of properties that are still in shell condition. These buildings need to be built out. It’s sometimes tough to make the economics work, but as the economy rebounds it’s getting easier.”
Monday’s sale follows a string of transactions in Bricktown handled by Martin and Burnett.

“This is good for Bricktown, as it puts more people in the area on the weekdays,” Martin said. “The days of Bricktown being just an entertainment district, home to just bars and restaurants, are long behind us. Every time an office user like this one plants itself in Bricktown, we bring a little more balance and stability to the area. … For decades we have seen so many of these Bricktown buildings sitting vacant as they get flipped back and forth from one speculator to another. Of course, the end game is for someone to buy these buildings, build them out and put them use.”

Journal Record

OKLAHOMA CITY – Local managed print services company Inkwell was purchased by privately held Standley Systems for an undisclosed sum.

The small Inkwell, owned by David Crossley, had about 40 customers in Oklahoma City and Ardmore, serviced by two employees.

“We have a much broader field of services and he was a good fit for us,” said Standley Systems President, CEO and owner Tim Elliott. “He had some really nice accounts that we weren’t in that we would like to have, some law firms and some hospitals.”

Standley, which has 90 employees and does business throughout the state, handles many state agencies. The company’s 28 technicians deal with scanners, fax machines, copiers and printers.

Crossley became part of the Standley staff, where he will help with customer transition. He told customers in a letter that a larger company with more technicians and service capability would benefit them.

“Standley Systems employs a more knowledgable staff in the technical sales areas of document workflow and related software needs,” Crossley wrote. “These advantages will provide significant benefit beyond Inkwell’s capabilities.”

Crossley also owns Commercial Linen Supply on SW 36th Street.

“We have enjoyed dealing with him,” said Elliott, who is the grandson of Standley’s founder. “He is one nice young man who is up and coming.”

5 Questions with Kimberly Lamar
Tulsa World

Kimberly Lamar is director of Sales Northeast at Standley Systems. A native Tulsan, she graduated from Bishop Kelley High School and received a bachelor’s degree in environmental management with a minor in industrial safety from Northeastern State University.

1: What does Standley Systems do?

Standley Systems is an Oklahoma-based solutions provider of digital office hardware and software technology. It’s a family-owned business that has existed for 77 years.

2: How has technology changed your business over the years?

In 1934, Standley Systems started selling and servicing manual typewriters and 10-key adding machines. Today, we assist companies with their copying and printing needs with everything from a small desktop multifunction device all the way to a high-end graphic output device.

In addition to the hardware solutions we offer, we find most of our clients are looking for more streamlined processes for their entire document work flow, and that’s why our responses to customers’ needs typically include addressing integration with their back-office systems.

3: What special security concerns should businesses be aware of these days as far as documents go?

A copier is more than a copier. Today, it’s a data hub with a hard drive much like your office computer. Without the proper safeguards in place, information that is copied, printed, scanned or faxed on a copier could be compromised.

The technology Standley Systems offers our clients alleviates this concern by overwriting or encrypting the data that is stored on the hard drive.

Business owners should work with their document management vendor to develop a security plan to protect their devices, data and networks.

4: Will the paperless office ever become a reality?

While many offices have embraced the idea of becoming paperless, the majority still live in a world of being able to touch a printed document. Many organizations, including our own, strive to adhere to as many sustainability practices as possible.

We recommend practices such as simply printing a two-sided document instead of two single pages. We also encourage the use of more comprehensive tools, such as a software solution that involves rule-based printing which routes prints to the most cost effective print device depending on the type of document. Or, it will prompt the end user with “pop-ups” challenging the need to print the document at all.

5: What advances do you foresee for office technology in the next 10 years?

With the evolution from analog to digital, the office technology world changed significantly. In looking out over the next few years, the technology evolution will provide end users with a substantial amount of convenience, especially in environments with mobile or virtual employees.

In today’s mobile environment, consumers can walk up and print to our devices from their smartphones, iPads, USB flash drives or SD cards.

In the future, I envision more embedded applications that will cater to numerous business sectors.

In addition to mobile applications, I also believe we will continue to see advances in color technology. Over the past 10 years, the cost per copy for color prints has dropped significantly and has made a positive impact for companies that need to produce high-end presentations or previously had to print their documents in black and white simply due to cost.

Ricoh is one of the world’s most sustainable companies for the eighth year in a row.

Ricoh UK, a specialist in office solutions, managed document services, IT services and production printing today announced the company has, for the eighth year in a row been rated one of the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World”. The 2012 Global 100 was unveiled during the annual World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

Dr Terry F. Yosie, President and CEO of the World Environment Center, and speaker at a recent Ricoh event for clients to share best practice approaches to sustainable business, said, “Ricoh demonstrates an excellent and long-term approach to sustainability in the way it conducts its business, and also sets a best practice example for its customers and peers. Global recognition is well-deserved for Ricoh, with the company going beyond legal obligations by proactively looking for ways to reduce its impact on the environment and promote biodiversity through innovative business services.”

James Deacon, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Ricoh UK said, “Being recognised as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations for the eighth year running is strong public recognition of our commitment to sustainability.
